Memorial Day Weekend

Well, we've had one busy weekend! Unfortunately, it was not the fun kind of busy. On Friday, we took Matthew to the eye doctor since we had been noticing him squinting the previous two weeks. Turns out he is 20/80 in his left eye and 20/40 in his right eye. It's a good thing we caught some of the early signs because he was on track to develop a lazy eye. So, his glasses are on order and should be in early next week. He does look quite cute in them....I'll have to see if I can get a picutre to post!
Once we were finished with the eye appointment, it was a quick McDonald's dinner (Matthew's choice) and then I was off to graduation. When I got home from graduation, I fed Kaelyn her night bottle and put her back down to sleep. She woke up two hours later, threw up the bottle, and was so hot that I put her in a sponge bath to cool down. She was running a 104.1 temp! So, we called the doctor who said to push fluids and bring her in at 8 Saturday morning. At the doctor's, she tested positive for Influenza A (not the swine flu....but they did send out another sample to the CDC just to be sure...still waiting on that result, but expect it to be negative according to the doctor) and the beginnings of an ear infection. I wasn't sure what I expected to hear next, but I wasn't ready for them to say they were going to admit her to the hospital! We had to wear face masks and were placed in the isolation room. Everyone who came in had to gown up and wear face masks. It was awful. They had a really hard time getting her IV in, the third try finally went. Unfortunately, that IV started leaking into her hand, which swelled up like a balloon, so they had to put in a fourth IV in her foot. That one came out around 8 that night. Finally, the doctor came in and sent us home so they wouldn't have to put in another IV. Good thing her fever was gone by early afternoon and she had gotton most of the first IV, all her antibiotics, and two good bottles of pedialyte down, or we would have been staying there. Sunday morning was back to the doctor's again. They were happy with her progress, gave her another shot of antiboitic for her ear infection and sent us on our way. Everyone in our house is on or has a prescription for tamiflu just in case! Needless to say, we haven't gone anywhere. Kaelyn was playing and acting herself yesterday but has now developed a rash across her entire torso and is spreading onto her arms. Good thing we have another follow-up appt today!
So much for a relaxing three day weekend...it's good that school is out this week, I need a break!

Jen and Aaron's Visit

Jen and Aaron came down the weekend of May 16th - 17th. We had a great time just hanging out on Friday night and Saturday morning, but the most fun was bowling Saturday night! Matthew really did quite well and insisted on not having help until the last few frames of his second game! He ended up getting 3 spares and 1 strike between the two games, pretty amazing considering the ball was rolling at a speed of 2 miles per hour!

Kaelyn watched the balls for awhile, probably trying to figure out what all this was about, but then danced around with us while the music was playing and was all smiles.

I know they love our kids, but I'm not too sure if our kids don't love them even more! Glad they could visit for the weekend!

Matthew's T-Ball Season

Matthew wanted to play t-ball this spring, so we signed him up to play for the YMCA. They were supposed to only have 5 weeks of practice on Thursday and games on Saturday....then it started raining and raining and raining! The season was originally supposed to end on May 9th, and here we still have two more make-up games, the last one on May 30th.

This is his first game. His team, the Tigers, was fielding first. Matthew is the one in gray pants. The first game they hit off the tee, but this last weekend they actually pitched to the kids 3 times and then let them hit from the tee. Matthew had a hit his first at bat and the second used the tee.

Kaelyn is 9 months already!

It's hard to believe, but Kaelyn is nine months already! She has been crawling for a month and a half now, but her speed has picked up considerably. She loves to rush towards Matthew's room and get his toys and books. Thankfully he does a good job at making sure the little things are picked up! Kaelyn loves to pull herself up on furniture, especially the kitchen chairs (under the table) and has just started to tentatively move from one chair to the other. She is so expressive now and Matthew enjoys making her laugh by being silly. At her doctor's appointment, she was in the 25% in both weight (16 lbs 6 ozs) and height (27 in) and was doing great.

Easter 2009

Happy Easter!!!! We have had a pretty quite day so far. We went to Mass and then out for brunch, just the four of us. When we arrived home, the Easter Bunny had somehow managed to visit our house. We are taking it easy right now and later we will go over to Chris' dad's house for an easter egg hunt and dinner with the family. Hope you all have a very blessed Easter!

Spring Break

I took the kids to Mom and Dad's over the first part of spring break. Matthew enjoyed going outside and playing with some of Uncle Doug's old construction trucks...

We enjoyed just staying around the house and playing. On Sunday, we spent the evening rooting for Michigan State in the elite eight and cooking out at Jen and Aaron's house. State won that game : ) but eventually fell to UNC in the championsip game : (

On Monday, we decided to go to the Children's Museum. Matthew was excited because it wa the first day of the new Star Wars exibit. It was a let down b/c it wasn't really an exibit for kids, as it was more of a collection of costumes and artist drawings than hands-on stuff. However, they did have some really neat wall murals featuring the characters. Of corse, Matthew had to have pictures with them all. Here he is with Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka.

What we weren't expecting was the Comic Heros exhibit, which was really cool. What more could Matthew have wanted? He could dress up as Batman, Spiderman, or anyother cool superhero and battle the bad guys in a fake Gothem City. Kaelyn was even taken by the cityscape!

We spent almost 4 1/2 hours at the museum and both kids and adults were exhausted! So, off to home to rest up. We stayed until Wednesday morning and then drove home. Thankfully, both kids are pretty good in the car, so it wasn't a bad drive.

I then wrapped up my spring break week by getting stuff finalized for prom on April 4th. OUr theme was Deep Sea Paradise and consisted of a 30 foot by 10 foot shipwreaked boat that we somehow managed to transport on truckbeds from school to the event center! Boy, I'm sure that looked pretty interesting to cars passing us by! Everything went very well that evening and the kids had great comments at school on Monday.

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile....February was absolutely crazy and I am just now getting to sit down for a few minutes on the computer.

Matthew is doing well with school and is going to experience his first team sport with t-ball sign-ups this week and practices starting the first week of April. He is into superheros and loves to pretend he is spiderman. He can't get enough of playing "Star Boards" as he puts it and always has to use the blue lightsaber, because "it's the good guy".

Kaelyn is now 7 months and is still itty-bitty, 16 lbs and 26 inches. She has been trying to crawl for a couple weeks now. She is quite humerous to watch, as she gets on her hands and knees and then pushes up to her feet. She has perfected the downward dog yoga pose! (You have no idea how long I have been trying to get this picture.....)

We also moved her crib down today and she managed to get her feet through the slats - her look says it all "Get me out of here!"

We are heading up to Indy for the beginning of spring break week (March 20 - 23) and then Sally has to be back for the crazy last minute moving and decorating for prom.
